Jharkhand State was carved out of Bihar on 15 November, 2000. Jharkhand is a blend of new and old. It is the 24th State of Union of India and is a haven of age old tribal culture and traditions. Rich in terms of forests and natural resources, Jharkhand is also a treasury of cultural heritage, music and dances, fairs and festivals.
Languages in Jharkhand:
The languages spoken in Jharkhand are Hindi (Official language), Santhali, Maithili, Urdu and Bengali. In fact, there are three main language families under which various languages have been grouped: The 'Munda languages' include Santhali, Mundari, Ho, Kharia, Bhumij while the 'Indo-Aryan languages include Bengali, Oriya, Maithili, Nagpuri, Khortha, Kurmali, Sadri and Panchpargania. The 'Dravadian languages' include Oraon (Kurukh), Korwa and Paharia (Malto) languages. Santhali language is spoken in places like Dumka, Pakur, Godda, Sahibganj, Jamtara, some places in East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan. Mundari language is mainly spoken in Khunti, Gumla, West Singhbhum, Ranchi, Simdega and Latehar districts. Ho is spoken in Saraikela and West Singbhum districts.

Jharkhand has been home for filming of Bollywood films (''Bubble Gum'', ''Udaan'') and a number of Sports persons (Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Saurav Tiwari, Deepika Kumari, Ansuta Lakra), Actors and Actresses( Priyanka Chopra, Tanushree Dutta, Manoj Tiwari, Manoj Bajpai, Nitu Chandra, Shekhar Suman etc.) hail from this State.
Art & Crafts
The beauty of this State lies in its age old tribal culture and traditions. As the tribal population lives predominantly in the villages, their arts and crafts too are connected to nature. Crafts include bamboo crafts, paitkar paintings, metal works and wood crafts.They are adept in making stone carvings and toys. Paitkar paintings known the world over are actually scroll paintings. Crafts of Jharkhand include metal works such as ornaments, agricultural equipments, weapons and even hunting instruments. Beautiful baskets of bamboo or articles used for fishing and hunting too find place along with ornament making. The tribal women are fond of wearing jewellery made of beads or metal. The craft of toy making is particularly done in areas around Ranchi (Capital city). The Government has taken positive steps towards marketing and showcasing the tribal arts and crafts. Fairs too serve as platforms where these crafts get commercial exposure. The simplicity of the people of this State is evident in their arts and crafts too.
Flora & Fauna
The flora and fauna of Jharkhand give it the colour and exuberance just like its festivals. The people celebrate every festival with gaiety and togetherness. There are a number of beautiful temples in this State like Jagannathpur temple, Sun temple and Pahari mandir in Ranchi. People from all over the globe throng to these places to have a glimpse of 'puja' ceremonies associated with each of these places of worship. Karma puja, Sarhul and Jitiya puja are performed by devotees .
