Religious Places In Jharkhand

Jharkhand is rich in natural resources, lush green forests, scintillating natural beauty of waterfalls and big and small rivers. To add to the sheen are the many famous temples and places of pilgrimage which attract devotees from the nook and corner of the country and abroad. They visit these religious centres and bask in the melodious prayers, chants and meditation in the back drop of natural beauty of hills and lovely architecture of temples-both old and new.

A list of well known religious places in Jharkhand have been furnished below:

Baidyanath Temple in JharkhandBaidyanath Dham ( Deoghar): It is also known as 'Deoghar'. This is a very well known place of worship of Lord Shiva. Devotees come from far and near to worship here.

Jagannath Temple (Ranchi): This is an ancient temple of Lord Jagannath built in 1691.It looks quite similar to the Jagannath temple of Puri, though comparatively smaller in size and area.

Anjan Gram (130 kms. from Ranchi): It is believed to be the birth place of Lord Hanuman. It is named after His mother 'Anjani'.

Pahari Mandir (Ranchi): Devotees throng to this temple and offer prayers to 'lingam' of Lord Shiva. They climb more than 300 steps to reach the temple at the apex of the hill that is 2140 ft. above sea level. There is a rush to visit this temple during Shravan.

Parasnath (190 kms. from Ranchi): Also known as 'Samved shikhar', it is a sacred place for the Jains.The journey to Parasnath starts from Madhuban at the foot of the hill. The 24 Jain temples here are dedicated to each Jain Tirthankara.

Rajrappa (80 kms. from Ranchi): People come here and pray to goddess kali. Rajrappa is situated at the confluence of Damodar river and Bhairvi or Bhera river. The famous Chinnamastika temple is also here. A fair is held on Makar Sankranti.

Satsang Ashram (Deoghar): It is a sacred place for the followers of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra.He was a social worker and is remembered for his contribution for the socio-economic  upliftment of people of this state.

Shakti Mandir ( Dhanbad): It is a temple of Goddess Durga.The ''akhand jyoti'' in this temple was brought from 'Jwalaji' in Himachal Pradesh.

Sun Temple: This temple is shaped like a chariot having 9 wheels on either side, drawn by seven majestic horses.The pond in the temple premises is used by devotees to worship the sun during ''Chhath Puja''.

Sai Baba Temple (Jamshedpur): This temple has been newly constructed. The construction work commenced in 2008 and today the temple is already attracting devotees from all over the country.

Kalyanshewari Temple (Maithon): It is a 500 years old temple of Goddess Durga. It was rebuilt by King of Panchakot. Natural beauty and calm engulfs the entire temple area.

Basukinath Dham in JharkhandBaba Basukinath Dham (Dhumka): This temple is around 42 kms. from Baba Baidyanath Dham.It is named so after 'Basuki' who is the king of cobras. The visit to Deoghar is considered incomplete if one does not visit Baba Basukinath who is 'aughar daani' --- one who fulfills all wishes.

Mahadev Sal (Goelkera): It is situated deep inside Saranda forest in West Singbhum district(Chaibasa).

Angrabari (40 kms. from Ranchi near Khunti): Also known as ''Amreshwar Dham'' nowadays, this temple complex houses temples of Lord Ganesha, Sita-Ram,Hanuman and Lord Shiva.

Harihar Dham (Giridih district): This temple has the biggest 'Shivlinga' in the world! Devotees visit the temple on Shravan Poornima and worship Lord Shiva. Nag Panchmi is also the time when devotees throng the temple for 'puja'.
